In the following we will ask you to assess your child's language skills. In doing so, we refer to the classifications of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The descriptions below must be applied in comparison to a native speaker of the same age. The evaluation of the language proficiency always refers to the age of the child.
A1 - Beginner. Has a very limited repertoire of words and phrases that refer to information about a person or concrete situations.
A2 - Basic proficiency. Uses sentences with short word groups to exchange limited information in simple everyday situations.
B1 - Sufficient proficiency. Has enough linguistic means to make him-/herself understood: the vocabulary is big enough to express his/her opinion on topics such as family, hobbies and interests, jobs, travelling and current events, albeit hesitantly and by paraphrasing.
B2 - Good proficiency. Has a broad range of vocabulary and expressions to talk about most general topics and express his/her own point of view with clear descriptions and reports; does not have to pause to find words and uses some complex sentence structures.
C1 - Very good proficiency. Has a broad range of vocabulary and expressions to choose suitable formulations from to talk clearly and appropriately about a large range of general topics or leisure topics without feeling limited in what he/she wants to say. Can use language flexibly and effectively for private or academic purposes.
